Anthony; my real family name
For years was working on my family tree. I became curious when I was on Bonaire in 1998 and spent a night on Curaçao. A copy of the marriage register of my niece was given to me. It seemed to be like a reminder of our family ties. But there was a name I've never seen before. And that made me curious. I did a research on my family name Anthony and found interesting information. And also about legacy of my grandparents. The puzzle is put together and will be published in the book.

Well, you may think I’m announcing the release of a new EP or album. That’s not the case this time. It’s a book.
While at home waiting for the formalities for my next job, I got the idea to spend the time translating my book with the title Why Discrimination? This is another life experience. I must say I am very satisfied with the result. Of course I did not do that alone. There was also some editors who gave me advices and one of them in US made a suggestion about writing a screenplay. A wonderful idea and I appreciate that so much. And it shows that the books also inspirates.

Let me introduce a beautiful song to you named “Grandi Grandi Grandi”. It’s originally written in Italian language by Tony Renis and Alberto Testa. It was a No. 1 hit for Mina in Italy and Shirley Bassey released it as "Never Never Never." Many other singers followed the success of Grande Grande Grande. To mention, Celine Dion with Luciano Pavarotti, Vicky Carr, Julio Iglesias with Nana Mouskouri covering the song in various languages. My version is covered in my native language Papiamento. When I was translating the song there was a discussion going on about the legal status of Papiamento. I will not bother you with this political issue. But I made a kind of “Joke” about that discussion. Actually Papiamento is a mixture of some languages including Spanish. So many native Spanish speaking people living on the island and also the locals also use Spanish words in daily conversations. This habit I’d used in my version of Grandi Grandi Grandi.

Following Musika Maestro, I'm translating another of my books "Why Discrimination?". I will be busy for a while doing this. Especially because there are a lot of legal terms in Dutch that must to be translated correctly.
In 1986 I’ve moved to the Netherlands. In 'WHY DISCRIMINATION?' – ('HOEZO DISCRIMINATIE?') - I write about my experiences with discrimination and how I’ve dealt with the culture shock.
What about the songs?
Last week I started doing a research to record three songs. The result will surprise me too.

For me, getting old is going through different stages in life. Sometimes with success and sometimes with setbacks. All together delivers life experience. The result is based on choices made during the course of life. And what do you do with it?
At certain point the moment will come to start thinking about retirement. And I have reached that moment. As you can read in my book Musika Maestro, since my youth I have dedicated my life to music. Singing here, singing there and some other activities. That's the choice I've made. By reaching the age of retirement I will have more time to spend to the music. To get old with music. Isn’t beautiful? I hope to have the opportunity to sing live all those songs I have recording through the years visiting your country.
Talking about countries, there's another thing in my mind. And that's making my way back to the Caribbean. Back to my roots. Perhaps that too is one of the consequences of getting old. Mr. Lou Rawls has recorded a song called Time. And the song Joseph on my album is about getting old and marriage. Check it out!

The artistic versatility of William Anthony
Julino Willem Anthony was born in Bonaire.
He visited almost every room from where music was created. He did his first experiences with the singing with the bouscouting named St. Michael.
In the early 1970's he made his debut with the band (expired link). Power in Theater Orange on Bonaire.
A second debut took place on Curaao in 1974 where he has taken part in the Festival in Broadway nightclub Voz di Oro Korsou.
The Antillian morning-newspaper announced him in 1977 as the most promising Antillean artist.
From the hands of Mr Frank Rozendal, former alderman of culture on Curaçao, he got his first award in 1977.
He is winner of several local and regional singing competitions, as the Festival Voz y Cancion Korsou 1983 or took a high place in during the final of talent-scouting competitions, such as the Festival Internacional de la Canción y de la Voz de Puerto Rico.
In 1978 revealed the artistic versatility of William Anthony, playing Feliciano's henchman Marco in the television series "Duel In De Diepte". In Netherlands he performed on several occasions, in addition to his regular job, and appearing on television; featuring in "goede tijden, slechte tijden", as a police agent in "Prettig Gregeld", an advertising photo, appearing in a commercial film and performing on a square in the middle of the city to a party in a private setting.
In 1992 he produced his first single "A helping hand", followed in 1998 with the single "Music from Bonaire", featuring traditional songs of the Netherlands Antilles. He has a number of CD productions after that on his name.
His writing talent he has shown with the book Musika Maestro, published in the year 2002.
William Anthony has particular attention to songs written in Papiamento, by leading Antillean composers from the 1960s and earlier. These songs are now equipped with a fresh and contemporary sound.
Unknown or forgotten Antillean songs which were released: Sobre Las Alas Del Viento (Corsen) music sheet comes from the book "Poesias de Corsen" CD Album Esta Dushi (2010), Bon Aa (J. Palm) CD Album Tesoro (2009), Riba Awa ((expired link). Pavert/Palm) both from the songbook Nos Ta Canta, CD single Nos Ta Canta (2007), Schoon Is De West and Snijderslied – CD single Music from Bonaire (1998) and he restored the composition Esta Dushi of Pedro Pablo Medardo de Marchena on the eponymous CD Album. Recovery of the almost lost harvest song "Mi Deseo" on the CD album Kunuku (2011), which has been supported by the Prins Bernhard cultuurfonds Netherlandse Antillen and Aruba.
