Lumps go mad in East Finchley

Hi chums, A couple of great gigs with two bands who have become our comrades in arms in the long fight to get punk rock accepted in modern society! First up we are playing with DADDY THOSE MEN SCARE ME from 20.30 on Friday 2 August at their old favourite haunt at Maddens, High Road, East Finchley. THOSE NAUGHTY LUMPS Rock promoter Tony Gleed says: "They were far too good, far too much fun, to be considered hip and cool by the cognoscenti back in 1979, but that's all grist to our mill as their subtly comedic somewhat risque punk pop makes for a fabulous night out all these years later." And it's not just their minor cult hit 'Iggy Pop's Jacket'. Their new tunes highlight pressing concerns to the older punk such as new classic 'Heart Attack' and 'Contusing You'. Wonderful entertainment! The Lumps will be purveying their usual blend of melodic punk, angst, embarrassing sexual incompetence and of course rip-roaring pop tunes to engage both your feet and heart! We have fab new songs on the sexual liaison of one of our mums as celebrated in 'Geoffrey Boycott', our paranoia in 'Gonna Fly' and 'Bacon Archaeology' which is about bacon. How can you miss it? DADDY THOSE MEN SCARE ME An English arty-punk rock sensation, the fabulous Daddies are just perfect - an instrumentally ace band, with brillo funny songs, delivered deadpan by their wonderfully eccentric lead singer. Be there early to make sure you catch them - or you'll miss one of the best London bands around. Their 'Teenagers' is a punk rock pop classic! Free entrance! Then you can make a weekend of it because next day the Lumps and their pals The Benefit Cheats are playing live from 20.00 at the Five Bells, East End Road, East Finchley on Saturday 3 August. THE BENEFIT CHEATS Our guests will be the fabulous Benefit Cheats. A band packed full of characters that produce rip-roaring old fashioned punk songs. Great fun for all the family! They have had two wonderful albums and deserve your heartfelt admiration! Look for their fabulous ‘ought to to be a bloody hit’ singles 'Shit Gibbon' and 'Seven Times'. (Pete's favourite!) Free Entrance and worth every penny.
