…quite frankly this album stands high among some of the greatest singer/songwriter albums ever - warts, scars and f…… great songs…

Live, he sits centre-stage and recounts the tales of his life on the back streets of Leeds, his touring years through to his crippling road accident in Brighton which still leaves him limping around with a stick like Dr House.

In the 80s he was the guitarist & founding member of the successful Rock/Goth band, The Rose of Avalanche. Eventually enough was enough and he broke up the band in the 90s and embarked on a solo career under his own name. 

3 solo albums later, which saw him support giants of the songwriting scene such as Frank Black, Vic Chestnutt, Kevin Coyne, Howe Gelb, Townes Van Zandt, he finally has a new album out.

His new album touches on a cathartic necessity to get through the nightmare of his road accident to the celebration of life itself.

Mainly one instrument and voice, the album gives a raw insight to the human soul and reveals a personal account of the last few years.

Berry’s Back:


After several years of silence Paul James Berry’s (PJB) finally back in the studio….

Since his critically acclaimed albums ‘Ginnel’ and ‘Nations’, Berry disappeared from the radar. Why?

Berry had a road accident that left his legs crushed by a 32 tonne lorry in Brighton, England. After a long rehabilitation he finally went back to the studio and he now proudly presents his new album ‘Spitfire Jukebox 1’.

Recorded in Berlin in the vast hall of the famous UFO-Studios, an old brewery which doubled-up as a bunker in the second world war.

The album consists mainly of voice with guitar or piano that gives a raw personal account of the last few years.  Touches on a cathartic necessity to get through the nightmare. Specifically a song called The Seven Dials - famous roundabout in Brighton - where Berry had his accident - the song starts with a recording of the actually road traffic noise, which leads into a spine-chilling frank account of the events….

This is Berry’s 4th solo album and quite frankly his album stands high among some of the greatest singer/songwriter albums ever….

All aboard the boat’s about to sail away!!

Earlier this year I booked a session in the famous UFO-Studios in Berlin, squatted in the middle of their great hall surrounded by microphones and recorded my songs. It's mostly just me singing and playing guitar, piano even a couple of songs on ukulele.  There’s also a guy that plays a phenomenal cello on a song......

The album will be released on my own label, EggTête Records on the 4th of November 2016 (Mischief Night in the north of England)

This album has been a very interesting experience  -  more so than the previous ones - basically because I’ve done absolutely everything…. songs, mixing, artwork the whole lot…….
