What is OAbcn?
Is a Orchestra who play classics of urban african music. The orchestra was born supported by the research Project named Escola de Música Africana (African Music School) which aims to synthesize the features of these musical genres as well as supplying documentary tools.

How does the project arise?
• The project comes up from the need for a modernization of musical learning and a need for sharing and broadcasting modern African music genres

• from a continuous elaboration of transcriptions,
• from the need for veracity in the contents of the courses and workshops carried out
• from the need for an offer of quality training for musicians interested in these music genres
• and as a result of the musical exchanges led by the ASPIAF in projects such as “Nights of African music and gastronomy”, “African Music Seminar”, “Talks to Africa”, or the Jam sessions of the Palau Alòs lecture center and the Gypsi Lou in Barcelona, and recently the "African Roots", and the "Joe Psalmist and Abdoul Azziz Sextet"
The OAbcn has been responsible for hosting the closing party of the African Music Seminar in the last editions.

Classics of Morern African Music stiles like Soukous, Marrabenta, Kwela, Higlife, Palm Wine, Wassoulou, Mbalah, from Youssou N’Dour, Myriam Makeba, Mathoella Queens, Thomas Mapfumo, Diblo Dibala, Tony Allen, Manu Dibango, Oumou Sangaré, and other main artists and styles from 20th century Africa.
