Matt Urbanek / About
Matt Urbanek is a singer songwriter and all around musician born and raised in Sugar Land, Texas. His love of music started at a very young age and was nurtured by his parents who often brought him to see their favorite country musicians at the local “honky tonks” in the Houston area. At age 10, Matt was able to convince his parents to buy him a drum set which he took to immediately. By age 11, he had already started a garage band with two of his school mates. The three friends stayed together and honed their craft through high school, playing anywhere that would have them. Although the drums were his first love, he gravitated to the guitar and quickly started to pitch his ideas in the writing process.
After high school, Matt and his closest friend attended Texas A&M University and continued their musical pursuits. In four years of college, the two made huge strides in developing their signature sound. After college, they decided the to move to the “Live Music Capital of the World” of Austin, Texas. It didn’t take long before they started gaining traction with their unique mix of mainstream and hard rock with the local Austin college audience.
After five years of extensive playing in the Austin scene, the two decided to take their talents to the bigger metropolis of Atlanta, Georgia. They quickly formed a new band and hit the Atlanta rock scene full steam. After playing every rock venue in Atlanta the two old friends decided to try individual projects. Matt is currently the lead singer/drummer for the band Void Luna as well as his solo project. This new solo project encompasses his modern rock roots with a sophistication that only comes with experience.
