Rock’n’Roll spoken here! Welcome to August and the “dog days of summer”. You may ask why are they called that? Actually, it’s because the sun is in the same region of the sky as Sirius, which is the brightest star visible from Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. This is why Sirius is sometimes called the Dog Star. In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the sun. It was the ancient Romans that believed that because Sirius was so bright that it actually gave off extra heat during this time, adding to the extra heat with the sun and the stretch of sultry hot weather.
