I Come From the Future

As we very willingly (for the most part) leave 2021 behind in its own dust, and actually DO let the door hit you on the way out, we once again reflect on how the universal language of music helped us 'hold it together' in tough circumstances. With even fewer live gigs than 2020, the on-line options helped as well. Prevented by a prior arrangement with TuneCore for digital distribution, my songs are not for sale here, only streaming is allowed. Imagine my joy if waking up on the first day of 2022 I were to find a bunch of new Subscribers on one of the places they do cooperate with. That would be at the link provided next. A welcome email came in today from N1M, offering promo from them in the Best New Folk Artist category, so here we go; apparently I'm to provide the background info for it.
Most of my promo time & effort goes for my acoustic cover of The Weber Brothers' 'I Come From the Future' in Folk Rock; there's a big need for its messages of encouragement & hope, especially lately.
The majority of my original songs would likely fall into the Folk category, or Singer-Songwriter genre, & I have been cycling them in one at a time on N1M, along with the Featured (ICFtF) & Title songs from my album 'More Love to Begin'. Currently 'A Runaway Train' is #3 of my allowed postings, a song that took 3 weeks to write. It is a tribute & memorial to the 47 souls lost overnight on 6/7/13 in Lac-Megantic QC from an unnecessary train derailment, but also is a call to action for those we trust with our transportation methods and legislation - whoever authorised for a 70+ car train with 5 locomotives to be operated by one man needs to have their head examined, & IMHO, prosecuted. It would certainly explain why only 7 brakes were applied by that exhausted person at the end of their shift on that fateful night. PTSD took another soul, a front-line responder, some days afterward, the toll from what they saw, and had to do, being too great to bear. 'Michipicoten' goes back to 1975, and the various others, love songs and some from personal experiences, are from as recent as the past decade. The title song is from a poem by Buster Fykes that I was allowed to put to music.

There was a terrible train wreck in Quebec in 2013; in the spring of 2014, I wrote a tribute & memorial for Lac-Mégantic, 'A Runaway Train', which has appeared here twice. Inspired by Gordon Lightfoot's song 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald', my song is entered in the CBC Searchlight song contest this year. A link is provided below FYC and daily voting is permitted. Hello N1M Network & Subscribers. The various genre N1M Charts are reset overnight Tues>Wed. Daily/Weekly plays & participation in other N1M features like Recommend offers for their 'Blink & Earn' system also seem to affect the algorithm that drives the chart positions. I'm most usually involved with 3 of them, Folk, Folk Rock, & Singer-Songwriter; sometimes also Instrumental, when 'It's Clear to Me Now' is posted. One thing that can really help, other than Plays & 'Likes' here, is going over to YouTube, to find (expired link) and clicking on Subscribe there as well. It's free, only takes a moment, and as a bonus, the rest of my album 'More Love to Begin' is there all the time - who knows, you may find a new favourite. An added benefit over here, is that any plays are tracked by my digital distributor, TuneCore, and a tiny income stream eventually finds its way to my account with them, unlike at N1M where no artist cashflow is generated at all. Of course, if any of you decide you would like to own a copy of the music, almost any of the popular digital streaming or D/L platforms have the album as well, also supplied by TuneCore.
