About Tom Hoa Binh & The Peacemakers

Band founded by Vietnam Veteran with PTSD .Writing songs about it has helped me understand it and heal. Singing lets it out of me and has helped me recover from this an awful lot. The best thing is t tomhoabinhandthepeacemakers is a PTSD outreach band reaching out to people with PTSD-particularly veterans and other with the same symptoms. After coming home from two tours in Vietnam, one as a door gunner/crewchief ,the other tour as a combat engineer. I felt isolated, alone, scared, unable to cope with ordinary life.
I tended to stuff my feelings way deep inside me and coped with it by drinking too much, overworking and avoiding my feelings at all costs (That didn't work). Fortunately, I wrote a lot of poetry over there and started to read it and write more afterwards. I bought a Yamaha guitar and some Neil Young song books and started putting my songs to music. Years passed and I coped with it through my songs and poems.
I moved to Asheville NC in 2007 and started playing "open mics", honing my performance skills (I'm kinda shy). My songwriting peers suggested I make an album ! Yikes-am I that good ?? "your songs touch people's souls" was the reply. I got a lot of loving advice and help from many friends-Aaron "Woody" Wood, Amanda Platt, Taylor Martin, Artemis Pyle, Neal Crowley, Paul Edleman, Adam Johnson, Malcomb Holcomb to name a few.
