Band Bio
Healy and Bauman became friends while attending a South Florida performing arts magnet program where each began playing violin in second grade and both were selected to perform with the Broward County Honors Orchestra. It included award-winning performances in national orchestra competitions.
Healy went on to join the South Florida Youth Orchestra.

It was in 2006 when long-time friends Colin Healy (then 15) and Jacob Bauman (then 13) decided they would officially launch the band “The Republik.”

Inspired by a vast range of music from Dave Matthews Band and Rage Against the Machine to Tool and Primus, The Republik brings a lot to the table as far as diversity is concerned. The band's first album
Last Chance Planet, released in 2007, features bassist, Jacob Bauman, (then 14) and singer/songwriter/guitarist, keyboards and violin Colin Healy, (then 16).
What makes The Republik so special is that their music appeals to a very wide range of people.
With fan's ranging from age 5 to 95 and of every race and background. The Republik is able to reach out to people and make them listen to the words they have written. The Republik's words make people think. The Republik appeals to a broad range of alternative and indie genres.
In 2007, a change of line-up occurred. Alberto Pizarro, (then 19), who had met Healy and Bauman at Bethune Elementary as a child, was brought in full time as a lead guitarist. Then in 2008 a new drummer, Beau Million, (then 17), who was very accomplished at the time of joining the band.
They quickly got to work on a new album due out in the spring of 2010, entitled The Unexpected Answer.

Additionally, Healy and Bauman are active members in the theatre, both of them performing, directing, and doing tech work in theatre productions throughout high school, and now, into college.

Currently, they are continuing their music education while performing at various local and state venues, and being heard through many various mediums across the world.

Individual Bios
Colin Healy has had a passion for music since second grade at Bethune Elementary School for the Performing Arts. There, he picked up the violin at age 6 and began perfecting his craft. Involvement in the Performing Arts Magnet Program of South Florida inspired and enabled him to perform.
Healy performed with the Broward County Honors and Florida Youth Orchestras.

He began writing lyrics early on, but didn’t begin honing his skills until around age 13. It was then that he began to create songs and lyrics that reflect his feelings, personal life experiences and the world around him. He told a local newspaper, “My songs mix real life situations with philosophy to produce lyrics with symbolic meaning that everyone can relate to.”

In 2007 Healy, along with the bands’ co-founder Jacob Bauman, produced The Republik’s first album entitled Last Chance Planet.

Healy was responsible for a slew of things on Last Chance Planet-- he was the main vocalist and songwriter, layed down tracks on guitar, violin, and piano, as well as co-producing the album along with longtime South Florida recording engineer, Marc Loren of 42nd Street Studios in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Healy co-founded The Republik in early 2006.

Jacob Bauman has been involved in with music for the better part of his young life. He attended the South Florida Performing Arts Magnet at Bethune Elementary School program and the experience provided him a strong background in the comprehension and composition of music. Private lessons and continued training lead to a passion for music and performing.

Healy and Bauman went ahead with their music education at Parkway School for the Performing Arts. Bauman, at Healy’s suggestion, learned to play bass guitar. As the band’s bass player, Bauman has been described in an article in the Dania Beach Press newspaper as having “a knack for creative bass lines; a fast fingered freak of nature.”

He has also taken on a role as the bands back-up vocalist. For Bauman, harmonies come naturally and this helps bring the band, and its music, together.

Bauman co-founded The Republik in early 2006.

Alberto Pizarro has always had an obsession for music. The seeds of his musical career were planted when Pizarro was in the third grade. He attended Bethune Elementary which is part of the South Florida Performing Arts Magnet program where he played the violin. This is how he met Healy and Bauman. Pizarro was selected to perform with the Broward County Honors Orchestra. It included award-winning performances in national orchestra competitions.

However, despite his musical beginnings, Pizarro strayed from the life of music for a few years following elementary school graduation. He says of this hiatus, “My biggest regret in life, up to this point, was not continuing with music after the fifth grade. The middle school I attended had a music program, but no one to teach my instrument of choice, the violin.”

Fortunately, Pizarro refocused in high school and started taking guitar lessons. A bit of a head banger at times, playing the guitar has taught Pizarro to let loose.

He studied music in college in 2007 thru 2009 and is now independently studying guitar as well as other ventures. He says, “I am constantly studying music now and practicing guitar everyday. I love the feel and sound of it more than you can imagine!”

Pizarro has been a member of The Republik since 2007.

John Keener, originally from New York City, began playing the drumset at age eleven under the instruction of drummer/percussionist David Rozenblatt, who fostered in him an intense love for the instrument, and exposed him to many different styles of music. Ever since, John has avidly listened to and studied a wide array of music. Previous to playing with The Republik, he has played with artists such as singer/songwriters Keller Glass and Kailey Billings, and rapper Kemy Joseph and in various high school and college level jazz and contemporary music ensembles. He currently attends The Frost School of Music - a part of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida - where he has studied drumset with Jason Furman, John Yarling, and Steve Rucker.

Keener has been a member of The Republik since 2010.
