The Dilligents - Hell to Pay

Helpful

Hell to Pay by the Dilligents is heartfelt song about trying to get home, trying to get back to the one the singer loves and make things right. The singer has a great voice and delivers the song authentically. The sparse, mostly acoustic guitar accompaniment, provides the perfect backdrop and lets the story breathe. The whistling along with the guitar solo at the end of the song provide just the right atmosphere. These guys do a great job. Well worth checking out!

Sounds like a Country-Ballad

The song comes up with a nice intro and goes on with some easy played guitar chords. The engaging lyrics feel like a story. Geno has a rather dynamic voice and unique vocal projection. The song is not overly complex but shows that just three chords enough for acoustic based song with catchy lyrics. The songtext comes from the heart and touches the soul. A good played guitar solo at the end make the song more creative and comes at the right time. This song give an account in words about someone or something and has definitely an important message. Really impressive story-telling from a very talented musician. I´m sure you will enjoy this recording and like to add. Let others know your recommendation.

bell'atmosfera

HELL TO PAY

Hell to Pay has great potential but needs a whole lot of work on delivery. I'm a lyricist in the main but take an active part in how my lines are delivered. Take a red pen and underline every word that needs to be accentuated, bring out the need , the pain and desperation. I would be inclined to lift the tempo, to me it's dragging along and the singer is verging on going flat at the end of some lines. I don't mean to be hard on you but it is a hard cold world out there and if you want to make it you need to put the hours in. Even demos these days have to be radio ready. Listen to some of the old masters, they know all about delivering a song so that you hang on every word. Looking forward to hearing more of you. sincerely Lola

Good melody

I really like this song. Makes me think of my wife lol. Great tune easy listening. Simple and sweet. Great melody and good storytelling. Your voice low and cool to listen to. Really enjoyed. Keep up the good work.

Great track !!

Superb song... Great feel & lyrics... Love the hook line... I can't believe I didn't come up with that line.. LOL as far as the production goes.. it actually works.. that being said, I would of love to sink my teeth into producing this track.. now if you don't mind if I critique a little... I would of loved to have heard some 2 part harmonies on a few lines and maybe your tag line.. and lead vocals I would of liked a little more straighter.. what I mean by that is... a little less dipping the vocal in different octaves.. but that's me... but all in all ... Great vocal and vocal tone... Great Job guys... Keep it Rockin. Peace Jeffrey James

Confusing song

Not the worst I have heard on here... but thats not saying much. So lets break this down. Performance: Mediocre at best. The Acoustic is out of tune (The b string to be precise.) The vocals struggle to hit the note often but that would almost be endearing on some levels if the rest of the production was better. Struggling for a positive and its that it reminded me at times of Bruce Springsteins Nebraska. Amd I am a fan of the style you (i can pnly assume ) you were going for. Now the Song itself: Are you on a train? Or diving a car with mechanical issues? Is there Hell to pay because you cant get to this girl... or is it hell to pay with your financial situation? I am assuming its getting to the girl. So what does that have to do with selling your shoes and giving away a blanket. It does not do an adequate job of painting a picture. Again, not the worst and I would encourage you to keep at it.

Nice!

The music is nice, and I like it. I think it does have that down to earth vibe to it. I like this one a lot, and you're on your way to getting an award somewhere . Keep producing beat work like this I love the lead vocals, and keep your touch on it. This is unique and original. I think this is a hit for sure. Nice one! By the music you can tell that you are passionate about your work as every artist should be. Never give up and dreams and bigger things will follow! Maybe we can collab one day! PEACE!

Raw, but real

Bare-bones production. Solid song, but probably could have been developed a bit more. This is real Americana don't to it roots. Nice, but you keep waiting for it to build up to something more.

In MY Opinion

Greetings, Thank you for choosing me to review your work, I count it an honor to be included in such a task. My hat is off to you and anyone willing to step out and share their gift, talent and love of music to the public. Be it a musician, singer, song writer, actor and so-on. I myself, via 40 some years of experience in the fields, on the road, in the studio, radio, TV, video, and management, consider myself to be a seasoned musician, singer, song writer, studio-sound tech/engineer/ owner/operator, stage manager, find it sometimes hard/difficult and perhaps not even fair to sit in a seat, voicing My Opinion concerning another's creative efforts. Especially in certain genres of music I am not all that familiar with concerning very important elements that make up and meet the required standards to justify the various levels of ratings and grades. So, in saying ALL that, I will limit myself to MY Opinion concerning the quality of the work according to My ears, and the standards I have been familiarized with thru-out the years. I hold to the old - saying " Beauty Is In The EAR of The Beholder ... LOL. The sound quality of the recording over-all is very crisp and bright and clear. I really enjoyed the message in this song, and the acoustic guitar work.Think about a music solo break to step away from vocals for a short period in future works. Vocals are smooth and natural, sort of - down to earth as they say, and extremely peaceful. The mix levels let me know who was still in charge of this song. Very easy to sit back and listen to. I mean no offense in any part, I myself take all feedback and use it as a tool toward my next project. I pray you feel the same way. Either way, I say to you, keep doing what you do, keep kicking and enjoying what you do. I tell folks all the time for many years. When it stops being FUN, then it's time to stop, and stand back and think about what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, what we and others are getting out it. Is it what we want, and how we want it. IF NOT. what are willing to do from there? Thank you again for asking MY OPINION. Johnny

Hell to Pay

Good lyrics good vocal solid song it's a bit slow I have a few that are a bit slow to LOL. I don't know, but I think it could be a little faster Sounds a lot like a country ballad. I feel like it would be a little better but could be more up-tempo. Didn't hear much background vocal. Not sure if it was on purpose or not.

More than 3 chords.

First off, I really think there are 4 chords. Then, I really wasn't listening to the chords. The lyrics and the message is just wonderful. I really would listen to more from these guys. Great job.

Good song

I love achingly raw Americana songs, and this is one. I'll agree with other comments that perhaps the whistle does not lend a great deal to the song, but each to his own. I was also thinking that perhaps the introduction of drums would serve well. Only a thought. All that said, good song.

the Diligents .......Hell to Pay

On the verge of a country song strong vocals and cord picking song and the 4th quarter we get an electric sounding guitar noodling around the driving cords . Not sure about the whistling on a recorded track this may work better on a live situation. Not sure if the person that is waiting will give the singer a hard time if they don’t get to meet with in a certain time. But if the song makes you think about a story then it means you have engaged with the song writer ... give the song a listen add to your play list and get thinking about the story here ... keep up the good work all the best Stephen

nice work

Overall I really like this. Like the song, like the voice. Good work. I am going to nitpick a little bit because I think you'll get more useful information from me if I tell about the things I didn't like. Number one on the list of things I didn't like would be the whistle. I think another patch for the same phrase might be more pleasing to my ears. Also the lyric about "turn your skies to blue" sort of grated a little bit. I can't give you a well thought out reason why that line bothers me but it does. Also, I can see that the accompaniment was deliberately sparse, and that's a good thing, but I think it may be a little too sparse.I would have brought in a few more instrument maybe a little sooner. But as I said at the top, this is a very nice song and very well recorded. Good job.

Interesting sound

This song has an interesting sound, a mix between rock and folk and this is very positive. The rhythm of the song seems a ballad, but with a contemporary effect. It result so new and likely.
