Wild Goose Chase with Coyote and Puppy McDonut
Don’t have a lot to say, so this is my little kids’ story. I have two more completed. Beware that it is cutesy, because children’s stuff sort of has to be. Annie and Misha McDonut are owners of Snoop McDonuts and recipients of the Nobel Prize for donuts, in service of the salvation of this delicious treat. Their family includes puppy and coyote McDonut and the Choonie-Moonies, ancient creatures who are guardians of the harvest and friends to farmers everywhere. This is the outline of a cartoon, if I ever manage to get to it.
Coyote and puppy are napping in the backyard. Coyote hears wild geese flying over. She wakes up puppy and says" let's follow these birds and catch a big fat goose for our supper." Puppy says, "but coyote. I want pizza." "No, no,no. This is a perfect plan. We are wild beasts. Savage hunters. We can do this."
These two start digging a little hole under the fence, just big enough for two naughty puppies to sneak through. They squeeze out and trot down the alley, covered in dirt, but quite proud of themselves. They follow the noises of the geese flying overhead. Soon they arrive at the big road near Snoop Annie and Misha’s house, across from the the park and Lake McDonut, where thousands of geese are gathered on the edge of the ice, waiting to fly South for the winter. “Careful coyote. Those are cars and they are dangerous.” “Hah,” laughs coyote. “We are wild beasts on the hunt and everything stops for us.” Honk, honk, beep, beep, screech, screech. Cars flailing everywhere. Coyote ambles across like nothing has happened. “My goodness,” thinks puppy. “You are wild today, coyote.” Soon they are at Lake McDonut.
Coyote is so excited. "We will eat like wild beasts for weeks to come. What a lovely sight. Come along, I have a plan. "Coyote pulls a fallen branch over herself and begins sneaking across the ice, chuckling at her cleverness. Poor puppy thinks, "My, my. This is trouble."
Coyote huddles low and creeps slowly across the ice, licking her lips and dreaming of a goose dinner. As they near, she stops suddenly and hunkers down. Bonk!!! Puppy bumps into coyote's tail and falls to the ice scrambling madly. "Shhhh" says coyote."We are so close." "Bark, bark, bark,"says puppy. "I still want pizza." Just then there is an eerie silence as the geese catch their breaths. Trouble! The puppies are spotted. "Attaquez mes amis, we are being invaded." They close quickly on the puppies, making a terrible racket. This pair of marauders scramble madly backwards until they tumble off the ice into the water. "Swim for your life puppy," barks coyote. The two paddle wildly with the big geese flapping around until they reach the edge and drag themselves onto the shore. "Cackle, cackle, honk, honk,"say the geese. The poor puppies huddle together, wet and cold. "Quickly," barks coyote. "Phone the Uncles." Puppy frantically nose dials the Uncles." Uncle #1 says, "Who is this?" "Bark, bark, bark," says puppy. "My goodness, it is those rascal pups. Where are you?" "Bark, bark, bark", says puppy. "Wait," says Uncle #2. "Do you hear the geese?" These silly ones are by Lake McDonut. Get the jeep."
They drive to Lake McDonut and run to the water. Down the water near the goose camp, the two raiders are huddled together, shivering and miserable. "Get two blankets and I will shoo the geese away," says Uncle #1.
They wrap up the foolish doggies and take them back to Snoop Annie and Misha's house, tut-tutting at this predicament. The puppies are so wet and cold that the Uncles must blow dry these two with hair dryers. Their fur is so puffy that they fall over on their sides. "Bark, bark, bark," says coyote. "I want chicken." Bark, bark, bark," says puppy. "I want pizza." "Please be quiet," says Uncle #1, "or the neighbours will call the Police." "Bark, bark, bark," say the puppies. "Quickly," says Uncle #1." "Take Snoop Annie’s credit card and go to the store."
When Uncle #2 returns with the food, the little dogs lay on their sides munching contentedly with little smiles on their faces and burping with happiness. The Uncles wag their fingers and scold, “just wait until your Mom and Dad get home. “ The naughty, naughty rascals just smile and munch their treats. “You see, puppy,” says coyote. “I told you that this was a good idea.” The end.
