Pink Kitten and Yellow Kitten and Their Pale Blue Scooter

Once again, in homage to my laziness, here is another children's story in lieu of a newsletter. These silly things take a lot of time, so forgive my indulgence. Pink Kitten and Yellow Kitten are cherished members of the Snoop McDonut household. They are very special kittens. Only a few kittens are chosen at birth by the Great Kitten to proudly display their colors throughout their lives. As such, they are revered by the Choonie-Moonies who understand the ancient ways. Even coyote, a total scoundrel who would normally torment kittens, grudgingly respects that they are true wonders. Special kittens can sense when other kittens are in distress and they must rush to help. Because they are compelled to rescue, Snoop Annie and Misha have purchased a custom Pale Blue Kitten Scooter for them from Italy, which they proudly ride throughout the neighborhood to please themselves and to delight the neighbors with their cleverness. “Hooray”, the children cry. “Look. It is Pink Kitten and Yellow Kitten, how wonderful,” while their mothers beam in appreciation. Such clever ones! The kittens take turns driving, while the other one rides in the sidecar and waves to the neighbors. What friendly kittens! It is a fine Spring morning. Annie has stayed home to enjoy the children and Misha is at Snoop McDonuts creating masterpieces for the busy cafe. The kittens are finishing their breakfast of tuna and warm milk. They are loving their meal, but both are uneasy. “What is it kittens,” says Annie. “You do not like your breakfast?” “Oh no Mommy. We love our breakfast. Something is not right in the neighborhood. It is not a lost kitten, but something is wrong Mommy.” “Please kittens. You must relax a little and let your breakfast settle. Then you can start your little scooter and find what it is.” “Yes Mommy. You know best. We will try to be patient.” But it is no use. They cannot even groom their little paws. Annie says, “All right my darlings. Run along, but please be careful.” “Yes Mommy, we love you.” “Yes rascals, now to your task.” They start their little pale blue scooter. It is Pink Kitten’s turn to drive, while Yellow Kitten will keep watch in the sidecar. They have listened to their Mommy and are wearing their matching pale blue helmets. How cute! But the neighborhood is peaceful on a sunny morning. “What can it be sister?” Sure enough, a small crowd is gathered around a little front porch at the end of the block. “What is it neighbors?” “The authorities have removed a family of interlopers from under the porch, but one of the little scoundrels will not come out.” “We can help,” say the kittens. “Quickly. Home my sister. In the side door of the fridge is the last tuna from our breakfast. Fetch it. I am sure that this little one is starving.” “Careful kittens. These are dangerous animals,” say the neighbors. “Oh no. This is just a baby. We will take her home. Our Mommy will know what to do.” Pink kitten drives their little scooter home. Annie is in the backyard, so she fetches the tuna and hurries back. “Back away please neighbors. She will come out. All little ones love tuna.” Sure enough, a black nose pops out and she dives into the delicious tuna. The kittens say gently, “come home with us little one. Our Mommy will know how to find your family. Come for a nice ride in our little scooter.” Yellow Kitten carefully tucks her into the sidecar. When they arrive at the McDonut house, they lead the little stray through the kitten door into the kitchen and fetch a little milk. The poor thing is starving and laps greedily. It is the choonies who notice first. “Aaaaaaargh. Kittens. What are you doing? This is a forest creature. Do you not see her bushy tale and her white stripe? Goodness kittens. She is a skunk! This is a very wild one.” “But choonies. Her brothers and sisters are captured and she is left behind under a neighbor’s porch. We cannot leave her. And look. She is so hungry.” “We must find Annie, say the choonies. You kittens will turn out like that scoundrel coyote, if you don’t watch out.” “But choonies. She is so small and alone. We must help!” “Yes, yes. We will get Annie.” Annie is in the backyard watering the flowers. The choonies tumble out like the rambunctious rascals that they are, all talking at once. “Please, please. What now?” “The kittens have rescued a little stray and she is in the kitchen drinking milk. But she is a skunk Annie! Not even choonies dare tease this one.” “Goodness you bunch. I am sure that you must be wrong. Let’s have a look.” Poor Annie. Surrounded by frantic choonie-moonies. “Goodness sillies. You would think that they brought home a bear. Behave!” Sure enough. There on the floor slurping milk is a tiny furry baby skunk. “Oh kittens. Look at this. At least you were close. These are called kits, not kittens.” “But Mommy. We could not leave her. She was alone and sad.” “Yes darlings. You are good kittens and you meant well. This is why we bought you your little Italian scooter. Let the poor thing eat and I will phone the shelter. I am sure that her brothers and sisters are waiting for her.” And sure enough, it was true. “Mommy, Mommy. Can we take her there on our little scooter? It would be so much fun!” “No dears. It is too far away. Misha and I will do this in the Lada after he returns from McDonuts. Don’t worry. You can come too and meet the family.” And so it was. “You have done well kittens. Such sweethearts! Look how happy they are to be reunited.” The End. Wishing everyone a splendid year to come. I really am not very good at resolutions, but I will try for some new music to celebrate the early days of 2020. All the best and thanks for listening. Modo.
