Anointed, Powerful, Uplifting are just a few words to describe new Gospel artist Queeni. Tremaine, Vickie, Mary Mary, Yolanda are just a few influences of her sound. Compared to some of the greatest musical talent out there this contemporary gospel artist brings Gods anointing to her soul stirring praises in song. Born Michelle Celine to the Rev. Dr. Willie S. Wilburn and the late Lillie B. Johnson, Queeni has been on the battlefield for the Lord all her life. As a young girl she was a very shy singer, she could be heard singing with passion from the pews however, when called to come up front and sing she would sit down and hide under the pew at times. As she began to grow in Christ she opened up and began singing in the youth choir, later becoming the youth choir director. In that position this bud began to bloom into a flower. After a few years of voice lessons and singing in the high school gospel choir this talented singer and songwriter began a career singing with local bands and groups, has shared the stage with The Temptations, Cheryl Pepsi Riley, and Alyson Williams. Queeni has performed at Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ, The PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, Sweet Waters and Wilsons in NY, and was also the Hostess for Open Mic at Rio’s Supper Club, NY. Furthering her passion for music she partnered with Sean Ward, Steiny Studios where Queeni was charged with Artist Development and Studio Management. All the while family and friends were encouraging her to record her own project and that Gospel was her true calling. In 1998 after losing her mother suddenly, she heard the voice of Jesus say to her “nothing will come to pass until you do what I have called you to do.” Being obedient to Christ she began singing Gospel exclusively and joined Gospel group Minister and Friends out of Jamaica, NY and Gospel Music Workshop of America – NJ Chapter. Queeni’s highly anticipated debut, “Queeni presents...Sunday Morning” is smoking up the charts with tracks “What Is It About Jesus", “I Praise You”, “Send Me” and "With Open Arms". Queeni - write, arranger featured on Minister and Friends sophomore release " The Ministry of Music" - wrote "Lift Him Up" and performing " Let's Have Church". Queeni has been making waves on the air with heavy rotation on WKMB 1070 AM Harvest Radio, WRTI 90.7 FM Ovations with Warren Cooper, and she can be found singing everywhere - Gospelfest Fundraiser for Chant Food Pantry, Mt. Olive Baptist Church 100th Anniversary Festival, WGMA Convention, and where ever there is an ear to listen and a heart open to receive Gods divine word. Let's get our praise on!!!!! | | |
