Paula Standing / About
Life began in Far North Queensland [Australia] for this folkie, but as a classically trained singer. Paula Standing tread the boards in musicals, operettas and choirs. Moving to SA in the mid 90’s, she explored new genres and in 2001, began penning her own songs. But recording only began in 2010 after teaching herself guitar. Swayed by the likes of Gillian Welch and John Prine, Paula was drawn to the world of Folk with an old country twist.
A redundancy package, in 2013, presented an opportunity.
“It seemed like the right time to invest in myself. I went straight into the studio, recorded my own material and released ‘Telling Tales’.” This was an honest, raw performance of one voice, one guitar.
But in 2014, Paula changed direction while studying Music Business and collaborated with other artists to release a new single ‘Running Away’. This produced a new full sound for her as a solo artist.
In 2015, Paula began recording a string of new original works working with an array of artists. The result, an extraordinary new album supported by a string of talent; From the pleasing lead guitar of Emily A Smith, to the haunting sounds of Mick Albeck’s fluent fiddle playing. Producer, Anthony Stewart offers substantial support with mandolin, bass and classical guitar. Add to this, delicious harmonies and a quirky chromatic harmonica, it can only be great. All Fun & Games was released Dec, 2015.
As a solo act, Paula performs original works with voice and single guitar. Gritty tales from the heart, interspersed with works from her favourite songwriters.
Singles released from EP Good Heart - Pity Me, November 2017. Chic Chic Boom, August 2018.
