The Light Within
Music is art. Sometimes when songs are suggested to my mind, they are introduced as one thing and, then quite unexpectedly, become something else. The Light Within began when I was watching Fox and Friends with the little white dog. One of the hosts is a beautiful, sweet young woman, Ainsley Earhardt. She was talking about her new book, "A Light Within". That was the beginning of this song.
"Jazz meets Country" best describes what happens in this creation. The verse is most definitely Jazz. The chorus is undeniable Country. Together these two styles meet to create an heartfelt song of healing.
"When the Light withi
meets the purpose of life
and the barrier falls away
The fear is replaced by a love so great

All the tears that once were here will pass,
Oh, the past is through"
There was a time in my past when I was so deep in depression, I felt nothing. I could not even imagine being happy. Then something sparked a change. The second verse addresses this.
"As I walk the path of life I chose
or it chose me
There was a time, now in my past
I lived in misery
I felt no pain or anything
The numbness kept me sane
Then the Light within grew again
and showed me a way"
I sat with one of my students the other night and listened to his "awakening" from heavy drug abuse. "Awakening" is most certainly what it is. I understand his story as it relates to my own. I was not lost to drugs. I was in love with someone who "loved" drugs and alcohol and workaholism. In fact I had three significant long-term marriages to abusive addicted people. My understanding is from the perspective of a co-dependent. Co-dependency is a form of addiction.
I woke up long enough to mentally call for help and my new life began. It was the Light within that brought me out of the darkness of a miserable existence. I am happy everyday and night with rare fleeting exceptions because of my choice to allow the Light within to lead. I left "the life" and met a man who is a survivor of an abusive relationship. "All the good ones are taken" until they are not. Two survivors are now happily living together in heaven on earth all because of the Light Within. Here is the chorus:
