HaMercy aka NoMercyOnThaBeat aka Lawd No aka ThaChozenUno was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, better known as the Queen City. Since the young age of 4 No Mercy has been connected to music. He began playing the piano, taking lessons from a choir director from his Great-Grandmother's church. As he got older he inevitably gravitated toward Hip hop. Exposed to the likes of (expired link)., Eric B and Rakim, and Kriss Kross in the early 90s Mercy grew more and more fond of the culture. When he was 11 he recorded his first freestyle on a tape recorder to Scarface's "I seen a man die" instrumental. While school and football would be his life, rapping was his true passion. He studied lyrics and starting penning his own rhymes by the time he was 13. "I used to do it for fun" No Mercy claims. Throughout high school he wrote and recorded several tracks in a homade studio at one of his friend's house. Eventually he bought a 4 track Tascam analog mixer and cd burner to produce his own music and cds. Making beats on the then popular MTV Music Generator for Sony PlayStation, Mercy developed a knack for producing. "I made beats I wanted to rap to. And I knew what I wanted my music to sound like. So I did my own beats and my own mixing back then!" Unfortunately No Mercy's career came to a halt when he was arrested in 2005. Sentenced to 7 years for robbery, the blow was devastating to his music and his life. But in prison he still wrote music and occasionally freestyled in battles on the prison yard. It was there where he sharpened his skills and expanded his vocabulary by studying every intellectual piece of material he could get his hands on. "Prison was more like school than confinement for me," No Mercy says. I learned a lot about life in general." After serving nearly six years, No Mercy dove head first back into music. Under the moniker "Speedy McGreedy" he released new music and several videos on YouTube. "I had to reinvent myself once I came home because so much had changed. Technology, music, my city, everything had advanced!"
