About MereMortals

Welcome to the MereMortals webpage. MereMortals was a local band based around Lowell, MA in the latter half of the 1990's. It was founded by Guitarist Paul Palmer, and Bassist Doug Munro, who were the main songwriters of the band. They teamed up with drummer Ron Young, and though they weren't playing live at this time, they were constantly working the songs, and writing new material. Ron eventually persuaded keyboardist Steven Surette to join the band. The two had worked together previously in the band Torn Soul. The biggest problem the band faced was finding a singer that could actually sing. The grunge movement was in full bloom at this time, and that was the style most vocalists at the time were doing. Ron once again persuaded vocalist Bob Mistretta to join. Bob was a powerhouse on the vocals, and blended perfectly with the sound we were trying to create. Unfortunately, after helping to bring in half the band, Ron had to bow out due to his own construction business he was trying to get going, and could not juggle both. The band moved to a rehearsal studio in Littleton, MA, and started auditioning drummers. After trying out a few, we brought on Charlie Willis, who we found not only to be a good drummer, but a great guy who was just plain fun to work with. Under this lineup, the band forged ahead, playing shows around the Boston and Lowell areas. Bob, brought in Ilene Reyes as a manager, who helped get us booked at a lot of shows. She also recorded us live on video, which at the time was nice for our own personal enjoyment, but there was no YouTube back then for us to use as a promotional tool. A demo tape was recorded by the band called Raw, which contained 4 songs. The band also recorded a live show at the Rat Skellar in Boston. These tapes, and the videos are all that remain of the band. After a short run for about 2 and a half years, the band fell apart due to the usual strains of trying to get a band going. It fell apart, and that was pretty much the end of everything. However, the band wrote some great songs, and unfortunately, a lot of it is just memories in our brain. The aforementioned recordings are all that's left, and it is because of that I am making this site. I thought it would be good to finally give the music the light of day it deserves. Granted, there will be no live shows to promote it, but if anyone out there gets some enjoyment listening to it, then its worth my while to make this stuff available to the public. None of the recordings are professional quality, but its all that's left of the band, and I hope people will enjoy it for what it is.
