Piano Musings (Improvisations with Video)
Piano Musings began as an exercise, an approach to the composition of my music from a point of detachment, having no preconceived plan or musical notion. I worked at silencing that inner voice that is a relic from the past, a voice that continually commented on the merit, scope and execution of the music originating from somewhere deep inside of me.
The result for me has been a liberation of my spirit, a reclamation of my freedom from the classical self-examination and critique that although is necessary for the finishing of a project, is misplaced when it is centered on the creative impulse.
Piano Musings was a point of departure in accepting that creativity comes from a place that has no geography, no address, no intrinsic source but the animus. Every wailing, grieving call uttered with the departure of a loved one, or joyous outburst at the birth of a child has the same beginning. My examination of the process of identifying and later removing the phantom voices that insisted on translating and qualifying the music I was seeking to create delivered me to a new plateau where my vision of my own creativity became more lucid, transparent and detached.
