Bio of the Artist
The first thing you notice about Margret's voice is the soulfullness and her affinity for jazz and blues....a clear voice that reminds many of Ella....with a touch of Dusty Springfield and a style all her own. Margret's music will be heard in the upcoming film ' When Kiren Met Karen ' by director Manan Katahora.

Margret Avery has a very different style, emphasizing long notes, contributing five songs (three of which were co-written with her keyboardist Daryl Kojak) and often interpreting her repertoire at thoughtful ballad tempos. While she performs a rambunctious “Wild Women Don’t Get The Blues” and revives “Autumn Leaves” and “The Island,” most of the material heard on A Place That’s Make Believe is quite fresh and full of insightful lyrics. Joined by a four-piece rhythm section that includes guitarist Kenny Brescia, Margret Avery (who is mostly heard in New York) manages to be both emotional and laidback, direct yet subtle. This is an intriguing set, available from myspace.com/margretavery. Scott Yanow/ LA Jazz Scene
