| | | | | | | | | | | | Bio of the Artist | The first thing you notice about Margret's voice is the soulfullness and her affinity for jazz and blues....a clear voice that reminds many of Ella....with a touch of Dusty Springfield and a style all her own. Margret's music will be heard in the upcoming film ' When Kiren Met Karen ' by director Manan Katahora.
Margret Avery has a very different style, emphasizing long notes, contributing five songs (three of which were co-written with her keyboardist Daryl Kojak) and often interpreting her repertoire at thoughtful ballad tempos. While she performs a rambunctious “Wild Women Don’t Get The Blues” and revives “Autumn Leaves” and “The Island,” most of the material heard on A Place That’s Make Believe is quite fresh and full of insightful lyrics. Joined by a four-piece rhythm section that includes guitarist Kenny Brescia, Margret Avery (who is mostly heard in New York) manages to be both emotional and laidback, direct yet subtle.
