Hello you awesome person, you must be cool b/c you liked Magenta Sunshine!
A little bit about the band: All of the members live in Asheville, NC and all of us have other musical projects. Basically, the Magenta Sunshine record (only 5 songs) came about when I (Dave Einzig) met Lenny Pettinelli (a wild Sicilian bro born and raised in Los Angelos) We literally live a 3 minute walk from one another. I had just moved from New Orleans, Louisiana to Asheville and Lenny had just moved from Northern California to Asheville. We became friends immediately and Lenny (because he's such a badass musician) already knew the roster of players on the Magenta Sunshine record (there are 8 musicians and over 10 instruments played on the 5 track record). It took us about 5 months and 400 hours to make this thing...Yikes, I have never typed that out...that's a lot of time.
BUT, I live to play/write music and I was freaking out b/c I wanted so badly to record some of my songs. Little did I know that Lenny was down the street just waiting for some original music to come along. He and I clicked immediately. I brought in the drummer who I'd been jamming with (Jon Deleon, from NYC) and our collaboration acted as the foundation to make this record. We called upon some of the best horn players I've ever met (JP Furnas and Jerome Whidenhouse) to lay down the horns. They're other projects include "Common Foundation", "Empire Strikes Brass", "The Squirrel Nut Zippers", and "The Roaring Lions". JD Smith of "Phunkle Sam" and "Duke of Lizards" laid down the bass!
Definitely got lucky and all the guys ended up liking my tunes. So, the rest is history, it's recorded. We have so much more music that we're working on, it's inspiring to know that YOU, yes YOU reading this actually took the time to enjoy our music. My New Orleans project, "Hopetoun" will be releasing our full-length record on October 20th. Lenny (the Sicilian who produced Magenta Sunshine) is also helping me finish up the Hopetoun record. 8 Piece band, the funkiest stuff I'll have ever released! So, New Music Coming Soon! Thank you again.

About Magenta Sunshine
Magenta Sunshine began when David Einzig, Jon Deleon, Lenny Pettinelli & a collective of Asheville's finest musicians came together to record unique music. In 2012, David relocated from New Orleans to Asheville. He immediately began to search for a local drummer by using this Craigslist post. "FUNKY-ASS Drummer Needed ASAP".
Jon DeLeon responded, and indeed he was funky. The two began to work on jazz standards. Somewhere along the line David played Jon some of his original songs.
LIttle did they know, right down the street (literally), Lenny Pettinelli had been rehearsing and recording out of his home studio for more than a year.
David rode his bicycle past Lenny's house every day for almost 6 months. Lenny's girl, Sarah, would stop and tell Dave that Lenny was a great musician. David did not meet Lenny until months later during a live concert of Daili CIssoko and Kai Ra Ba in downtown Asheville, NC. It also happened to be the night Lenny became engaged to Sarah.
Plans were made, drinks were poured, and the three musicians began to rehearse. This all went very well, so well that the three fellows decided to record a demo. This demo turned into a large-scale production, mainly due to Lenny's significant musical connections in the region. Eventually, 5 original tracks were recorded with a total of 10 contributing musicians. The first recorded EP utilizes 11 instruments and over 8 months worth of creative and collaborative effort. The final product is a unique blend of lyrical folk, R&B, and jazz... Magenta Sunshine has been born!
