About Lonnie Rathie

(expired link)

Proud to have been born in Calgary, Alberta, home of the Calgary Flames and the world famous Calgary Stampede, Lonnie Rathie grew up on her parents fortunately excellent musical preferences.
Those influences have all made their way into what she calls "bastard folk-country-rock." She started taking singing and piano lessons at a very young age . At 19 she joined her first band as a backup singer and the performing bug hit. One band later again singing backup, she wanted to write her own music. She learned how to play guitar and started writing a slew of songs. She recorded a 6 song demo in her friends’ kitchen on a 4 track in 2002 and then moved on to a full length CD "Travelling ALone" released in 2003. She was the musical guest on VTV's "Breakfast Show" and starred as a musician on "The Twilight Zone" episode "Harsh Mistress". After living and working in production in the film and TV industry in Vancouver for many years, she decided that music was her true calling and set out to follow that goal. She devoted her time to writing and performing with her new motto 'face your fear, live your dream.'
She attacked the independent circuit - playing such venues as The Green Room, The Marine Club, Kenny's Castaways, The C-Note, CBGB's, Piano's, The Rockwood Music Hall and The Bitter End. Her original roots-rock sound conjures up comparisons to Natalie Merchant and Patty Griffin.
She was invited to be part of the 'NYCares" compilation in 2004 and performed over 50 live shows in the next 2 and a half years in Vancouver, Austin, Montreal and New York. She released another independent CD "Live Your Life" in 2005 and is hoping to drum up some label interest and record a third one. The show "15/Love" in Canada and France has been using her music for 3 years and in season 3 Lonnie made a guest appearance on episode seven - "Road Trip". It aired in August of 2006. She filmed it while she was in Montreal writing and doing some recording. Also her song "Heaven" was featured in the Lifetime movie "I Me Wed".

In September 2006, Lonnie took a year and a half off and went to China to teach music to children and created a program that used Western music to teach English. She then spent 3 years in Sydney, Australia and got married. She is currently based in Calgary, Alberta with her husband and 2 kids. She plans to launch a full scale attack on their music scene once the kids are in school.

Look for her songs in the upcoming movie "Traveling At The Speed of Life" written and directed by Brent Cowell.

Her love for music is followed closely by her affection for hockey, kickboxing and pretty shoes. This 'rockstar-in-training' speaks French, Italian, Spanish and just enough Chinese to order beers and ask how much shoes cost. What else do you need to know in any language, non?
