| | | | | | | | | | | | Bio of the Artist | The current line-up of June In December was born in the early spring of 2006. After being active for barely a year, they won the Drentse Poprijs in 2007. By combining elements of indie, screamo and conventional pop music, the band creates their own daring and distinctive sound: By exploring the limits within their musical barriers, they achieve unconventional contrasts within their compositions. This varies from quiet, almost ambient, breakdowns that are brutally interrupted by versatile rhythm changes and complex guitar riffs. This is combined with screams that add staccato accents on top of the angelic main vocals. In addition to this there is another layer of melody created by the electronic piano, providing more depth to the bands sound. The bands democratic way of songwriting exemplifies itself in multi-layered and interwoven musical parts: June In December is a musical collective that will explode off of the stage.
"Refreshing, daring, excellent collaboration between members. The overall picture makes sense." Jury Drentse Popprijs
I would describe the music as accessible. After repeatedly playing the demo, its melodies will get stuck on repeat in the back of your mind. If it werent for the screams and unconventional rhythm changes, JiD could even be labelled as rock music. CSLive
"Pianist Kris Vesseur surprised the audience with a nice, slow and dramatic intro of the first song. A bigger contrast was barely imaginable when her brother, and screamo-singer, Lex joined in. Nevertheless, it remained more than worth listening to." Asser Journaal
"These newcomers have only been together for a short while, but have a few experienced musicians in their midst. Most prominent asset to the group is keyboardist/lead singer Kris Vesseur. Together with her brother Lex (screamer) they form the steady vocal department in June In December. Musically the band keeps shifting from energetic hardcore/emo riffs to calmer and more melodic bits and pieces. While the guitar/bass/drum section keeps a steady pace throughout the songs, the vocalist duo provides for a great contrast between all-out rage and beautiful clean melodies. A beauty and the beast situation if you will." Roar E-Zine
