Natural feel of this song takes off from the start with a call for a lot of coloring, so I therefore feel I would have loved hearing a mandolin at the top of the song. I also feel that kind of coloring, or sound rather, would have helped the backdrop for the vocal which works well, but seems to be pushing harder than the other instruments. Great song. Good luck with it.

A very interesting blend of instruments and rhythm that creates a unique and enjoyable sound. The cello and violins when mixed with the guitars create an almost Celtic sound, but the jungle styled beat pulls the listener in a different direction which is surprisingly pleasent. I might suggest tightening the time between the double tracked vocal to about 40 milasecs, and then actually sing the second track and double track those vocals 30 milasecs.

Tribal

Cool Concept

John, this is a difficult one. I like the overall concept. I am left however with more questions than answers. What is the purpose of the piece? In my experience, there are two ways of looking at it. Save money on production and just gig or spend money on production and sell yourself. This could work for the former if that is your goal. I'd say push hard for gigs using the demo. Solid Mix, vocals too thin.

Great song, I enjoyed it all the way through. I had a sense that I could focus on any element of the mix and hear it all the way through, which is a difficult thing to do. There is a natural flow of the song structure where there is no jarring sense moving from one section to the next. So great instrument separation, great song structure construction, great timing on everything, very good overall mix. My biggest criticism is the tone of the vocal. It sounds like you put a high-pass filter on it and are inadvertently stressing the harsh area of the frequency spectrum. If so, I’d lower that EQ filter to give the vocal more body and put something like a de-esser in the harsh zone to tamp that down. You can split the vocal into an upper and lower frequency part and only side-chain the lower if that muddies things up. There is an overall lack of warmth to the overall sound, perhaps mainly due to the vocal. For clarity, something has to give. I described what I would do about this above. TrackSpacer from WavesFactory is better than ordinary sidechain compression for my tastes. I was disappointed with the place where a solo belonged. Busying up the rhythm guitar was OK, but I expected a little something more there, like the flute in the picture provided. So, a little lack of warmth, vocal EQ’d too high, needs a proper solo. Apart from that this is a fantastic song, and remains so without change. It has a happy upbeat feel and the cello(?) is a nice addition. I don’t have any sense of kick and snare, and I don’t care. Fantastic effort reflecting many years of hard work. You should be very proud of this.

Bonita canción

Me ha parecido una canción muy interesante, con una original mezcla de estilos populares. El sonido es muy bueno y todos los instrumentos están bien ecualizados. Mucha suerte y saludos dese España!

Interesting but too busy

Helpful

Interesting use of percussion! I would have liked a little more Celtic touch to the drums. There are a few verses that had too many words in them and sounded rushed. The combination of the rapid vocals and drums makes he song a little frantic and tired out my ears. It is an interesting composition and I, for one, would like to hear a slower smoother production.

sunny song

Hi John. Nice song. It's cheerful and deep at the same time. Musically well done. I like the guitar solos: Reminds me a bit of The Velvet Underground... The cello is a bit too strongly present though. A cello is a very serene and somewhat holy instrument, you can't stress it too much. But hey man. You've got a great voice. I'm going to listen to it again. The lyrics are somewhat wise and adventurous at the same time. I'm from rainy depressing Belgium but I've visited the Sunny State man,and this Californian vibe made me drift away in my loving memory of my journey to the West ! Good but need more variation

A nice touch of this song. Maybe some more variation more change to the song with a greater deal of tension and release is needed and chord differences its always great to be pleasantly surprised. Dont really now about the singing variation. Maybe more changing between 2 octaves. Some lower tones also...

The song has what I call a good feel to it the percussion I think needs work sounds like there are sped up bongos or someone hitting card board boxes I think the song would benefit from having a full drum kit mixed in behind it also more change to the song with a greater deal of tension and release is needed and chord differences its always great to be pleasantly surprised by where a song will take you having said that you might want to build the song vocally as well don't let all your guns out in the first 30 seconds my advice is to rewrite the song and give it greater variance and appropriate production

Der song gefällt mir sehr gut die Voices sind sehr stimmig Meiner meinung nach könnte der Mix noch etwas besser werden aber das Concept ist richtig und geht auf. Liebe Grüße aus Petershagen G.W.Scott

nice voice style

Nice voice style and that percussion made the song interesting. It makes me wonder wether that cello is real or is it computer made. It goes really well with the song though. I like songs that open, developes and closes with the opening chord.

Top 10% of what I've heard here

Engineering mix very good ... I would bring vocals up just a little ... love the guitar in the mix ... nice easy break in the middle ... hard to understand words but a different mix would cure that ... solid on the ending ... overall very nice.
