Song Reviews

This is a song I want to hear

Really nice. I have not been greatly enthused by much of what I have heard on N1M, but I really like your song. Professional production sounds, good lyrics, good melody. I actually listened to the entire song! That is high praise coming from me. I am a tough critic, and I have skipped many song reviews because I do not want to write a harsh review (even if it deserves it). You should know I enjoyed listening to your song very much. I think it is in more of a country genre, which is not what I usually listen to, but like I said, I listened to this entire song. Honestly, that is a first for me doing the few reviews I have done. Best of luck to you, and I hope you find success as singer-songwriter, performer, rockstar, or whatever you hope to be. Keep up the good work.

This is a really good song!

I really liked this a lot! Great lyrics, great production, great structure, and great vocals! I don't know if Jeff is trying to be country or contemporary rock, but this song could fall into either category. This is a breath of fresh air as compared to most main stream music today. Jeff Hayford is a good song writer and deserving of a record deal, if some record company doesn't sign this guy, then they're stupid...The music world is in dire need of good song writers and hearing this song by Jeff Hayford has me believing that they still exist!

great song

classic sound with great melody and feeling. Highly recommended to listen anytime and feel back to the good times of good music. Jeff uses all the classic rock elements with elegance and mastery, sounds nostalgic and powerful at the same time, and becomes pleasing to the listener. Good luck and sucess.

Hear Him Sing

Very nice song Jeff. It's easy going with a great beat. I like this song allot. I think it gets me thinking about country living and not having a care in the world. Reminds me of a simpler time when I was a country boy.

good feel folk blues

Great rock n roll blues song. Got a slight country feel to it but more like old country and not the newer generic stuff. A lot of soul present too, the way good blues should always be. I really like this song, listened multiple times and it's just simply, good, honesest, meanifull, well written and played, RnR blues.

This just the kind of music I really like. Gentle on the ear but with a lovely back beat going on and sounding so good with this singers voice. Very well put together and a great performance.

Nice!

Very nice song! What a great melody written up for this song, and love that title you have put up, it definitely carries the meaning behind the song. This is the pure definition of music my friend :)

Listening carefully

Jeff Hayford brings us Hear Him Sing... an old school ballad that in a very eery way sounds a lot like the late Jim Croce and I don't mean in just the tone of the song but the arrangement as well as the vocal quality including the back up vocals. It even sounds like it was mastered in the style of the 1970's music. From the recording and mixing standpoint I can't really find anything wrong with the way it was done.... except maybe the vocals could have had a touch more reverb... but really that is about it.... well done!

Nicely done

Was surely nicely surprised with how calm and well balanced tune is. While may not be standing out by many of what could be regularly heard it has it it own flavor which I consider hardest to get, so great work!!!!!

Really ought to "Hear him sing"

Jeff has written a good old fashion Singer/Songwriter tune. The recording is very clean and the instrumentation is beautiful. The song builds throughout as it should. Starts off as something that would be at home on a Peter Wolf album. I wish more people would take the time to craft songs like these as opposed to relying on pre-built beats and loops. I can see myself hearing this song in my car driving down the road. You really ought to hear Jeff Sing. Well done Jeff!

The good stuff

Gentle melody beautifully crafted taking you on a journey like reading the pages of a book, this song has a lot of heart. I could easily kick back and take that long road to Memphis. Great work

Solid Americana

Obvious influences from the great Americana artists that affect everyone in the genre, including a direct reference to John Hiatt (who also appears to be one of the main influences), this song has all the elements that firmly entrench it in the Heartland of America. There's the simple chord progression with no surprises, the rhythmic acoustic guitar groove that could carry the song by itself, the tight interlock of the drums and bass guitar in their positions of doing just was is needed, no more, no less), the working man's Fender strat lead with just a touch of effects, clean lyrics from a clean singer laying off of the tension and semi-sparse background vocals. For those who lean towards American, this is the ticket...a well-done effort.

Healing Through The Grieving....

This song portrays how music and song lyrics can help us heal through the loss of a loved one and come out the other side of that time of grief to recover from that loss and to keep living and keep loving. Your song lyrics because the words are so poignant and a testimony to how certain song writers and the sound of their voice have the power to speak healing into our souls, lifting our spirit out of our greatest times of sorrow and searching for a new beginning....a new reason to keep living....keep loving "with a little help from above" is my favourite line of the lyric. Your vocal on this song carries the emotions to us in such a way that I could also call to mind songs that have helped me through the dark hours of the soul. As to the instrumental composition, I really enjoyed the country vibe blending with the classic rock instrumental. Wonderful acoustic guitar that really is a perfect match to meaning behind the soulful lyrics. The bridge of the electric guitar instrumental composition just fits and plucks the heartstrings. The back beat of the drums is also a great fit and a great beat for a slow two step dance. The soft fade out of the back up singers on the chorus is also what I love to hear in a danceable song that will surely bring the dancers together cheek to cheek. All in all, this song accomplishes what every Singer & Song Writer hopes their songs will do and that is to express and identify with the human condition and in cases like this of loss...coming through to a place of recovery and healing.
