About Heart Of The Bereaved

Heart Of The Bereaved is currently a solo project composed of founding member, Xavier "Abysmal" Boyd. Active since 2009, music styles have fluctuated as frequently as the lineup. From '09 to the onset of the new decade, it was a mesh of acoustic folk rock and, vocal-wise, death metal and grunge. Inactive for the most of 2011, the project saw its first lineup change towards the end of the year and beginning of the next, leading the group to become a little more diverse in its musical approach. From late 2011 to early 2015, only Boyd and one member of the new lineup remained a constant, until its eventual dissolution. Music styles were a cross between death metal, sludge and stoner doom, psychedelic rock, prog rock, funk, blues rock, noise rock, and the rest. By 2012, the band of two released its first official recording, a single titled Commercialized Hecatomb. In 2013, some pre-demos of a song for an unfinished EP, initially to be called PhantoM, were unofficially released in the form of burned CDs. The year after that, a live album was recorded at a former mutual friend's family owned restaurant/venue. Originally planned on being named Everybody Here Is Going To Die, the recordings for this album were finally presumed lost after over a year of them being missing. Continuing to play gigs the rest of that year, a rehearsal demo was recorded in late August before an upcoming show. Before breaking up in 2015, the project played its last gig in January and released one more rehearsal demo the month after. By the end of that year, on New Year's Eve, Scapegoat's Doctrine was released as well. This new major change in the lineup helped to bring other influences to the writing process and its execution, most notably, noise, ambient music, neoclassical darkwave, gothic rock, doom metal, and the like.
