Sudden Madness - Prelude For Piano Solo

The piece deals with madness, often the subject of music. As an example, think about the famous theme of “follia”, used, arranged and varied by many composers. This piece is inspired by madness, highlighting some aspects, not least the creative one: there is no art without madness. The piece is built in a tripartite form: A-B-A '. In the first section, A, it initially bases on the obstinate C-G-D-Ab. In fact, obstinacy is often a characteristic of madness. This section presents playful and childish characters, fragmented by more intense and contrasting moments (for example in bars 7-8 and 14), that will be developed in the following part of the piece. The rhythmic and harmonic elements presented will then explode in the central section, B. In this section, violent and almost angry, but also vital aspects emerge. The initial obstinate, which acts as a unifying element, appear again, for example, in the right hand, although rhythmically much quicker. Part A' incorporates some elements of A', however, but in a different setting, as if the second section caused somehow a transformation. The airy and playful elements of section A, in fact, completely leaves the place to a more hypnotic and hallucinated, almost hopeless scenario. Madness.
