An Elegant ElegyMr. Nordskog has composed and performed what is surely a very personal and moving elegy. The musical setting for the lyrics are in a popular or folk genre. The song is sustained by an moderately upbeat tempo of strummed acoustic guitar with a keyboard-string-backing-device that worked well to accent the emotive movements in the song. The lyrics, while obviously personal, for a 94-year-old individual who is, in death, now "free to fly" certain crosses the personal to the universal. One might sense the song could be served by greater editorial attention to both lyric and musical setting to gain popularity with a larger audience, but, then again, that doesn't seem to be the aim of the work. It is a song, an elegy in music, to honor a departed loved-one. And in that noble cause, I am certain this writer and his worthy song achieved the goal.
A lovely song !!We honour you today is such a lovely tune, other worldly with a griping melody from start to finish. Reminds me of " candle in the wind" The intro bars have the power that instantly yanks me into the song, to then emerse me into the Soulfulness of the vocals and solemnity of those words that honours a life that's been well lived and now moving on to a new destination of rainbow colors and greenery. We honour you today should inspire anyone and any one should find something there to identify with. Such a beauty.
WE HONOR YOU TODAYNice chill guitar chord intro. Very reminiscent of Neil Young vocal style. The song has certain anthem qualities to it. If you like to chill and drift away this song will do that for you. Is definitely worth listening to. I think it has a good relaxed chord structure and vibe to it.
Heartfelt Tribute To The Life Of SomeoneThis heartfelt song drips of passion for the life this person lived. After 94 years this person's life was full and clearly affected many. Gentle harmonies back the lead singer nicely. There is a little instrumentation but very subtly done, and that seems to work. A simple guitar strumming pattern sets the tone for this song. The vocalist means every word which is what makes this work. This was a nice way to write a song of tribute without being corny or difficult to listen to, it instead is a warm description of the emotions left behind when this person went on. I look forward to hearing more from this talented artist.
We Honor You TodayI really like this song. The vocals are wonderful and the song itself is recorded extremely well with great arrangements. The sax sound adds such a nice flow to the song. I think that much heart and soul has been put into this song -- I would've liked to have the lyrics to read. I think I know what it's about but not sure. The song kept my interest from beginning to the end.
A Dylan beginning..Definitely reminds me of Bob Dylan at the beginning until the vocals come in. I can tell the subject matter is something very personal to you and the lyrics are heartfelt. That being said, the lyrics in the first verse are pretty cliché and takes away from the other verses that are much better written. I would cut it or move the 2nd verse to the first and right a new one are maybe put a bridge in the middle. My philosophy is, only have one lyric per verse that could appear on a hallmark card (and I am being serious). This will usually let that statement be the star of the verse and then you can build the other phrases around it. Unless you are Bob Dylan, then every word seems profound. Good luck and good work.
Nice tuneReal chillaxed sound that got mixed and produced very professionally - at leat I expect it. Not my genre, but Ill def will listen to it a seconds time, a third time.. and maybe even more times. Yay!
We Honor You Today ReviewSimplicity is key! This is an excellent depiction of how some of the most famous songs, are also the simplest in structure. The lyrics are very easy to follow and the melody contains a perfect amount of predictability that is key when attempting to gain the highest level of likability among the majority. It would be nice to hear again with the vocals set a little further back and adding a few minor harmonies just for added texture. Overall, very well done. .
StraightforwardA straightforward song, in terms of musical structure, message and emotional conveyance. It is in all respects a folk song, one that might be easily performed by others, requiring no effort to decipher chords or tackle a rhythmic figure. The style and melody might better suit a female singer. The vocal presented here is effective, though uneven in spots. It is at its strongest at end of a high sustain, morphing into vibrato. It is weakest in transit between notes, with pitch issues here and there, and there is a slight sense of strain, yet the voice shines in crescendo, exactly where it might be expected to falter. Structurally, the bridge provides welcome relief from the more static chord structure of the verse. Overall, the song strikes a chord with its purity of message and steadfast adherence to the concept. With a superior vocalist, it might even draw tears.
Good song!I like the way it starts softly and simply and adds more instrumentation later. It's a nice vocal performance. The melody is interesting and pleasant. The lyrics are meaningful and fit the melody and rhythms very well. The chord progression is simple but sounds good and works well with the other elements of the song. I enjoyed listening to this song very much. I would like to hear more from this artist. The track itself sounds like perhaps it was low budget recording session, but that's OK. I can easily ignore that when the song is good and the performance is good.
Love it.I like everything about this song... composition, execution, vocals, musicianship and concept. I will be looking forward to hearing more from this artist. Great stuff. It has depth and it's an accessible song to a wide audience. - earl kayoss.
We Honour You TodayA beautifully crafted and sung song. The singing is wonderful and clear, the resonance of the higher notes is fantastic, you are clearly gifted with such a great voice. This song also goes to show that the minimalistic approach in so far as instrumentation is concerned, can, and does work. I really enjoyed your song and singing - well done, absolutely great, and, thank you for asking me to review it Keep it up..
Like it !I enjoyed your music. Nice guitar sound which compliments your singing voice. I especially liked the lyrics- sentimental like- which helped keep my interest up, as this is a bit longer playing song. Nice work!
A Review Of " We Honor You Today " By Peter NewonA beautiful song that gently holds your attention till the end. The arrangement is impressive, and it's clear Erik has spent along time on this recording. Excellent production from top to bottom with fantastic lyrics make this track a joy to listen to. I particular like the way it builds through the song and then drops out at the end to vocals and acoustic. This is a really good song that we all should take the time to hear. Nice one Erik !
Review: "We Honor You Today"Hi Erik, Thanks for asking me for a review... At first listen, "We Honor You Today" was quite pleasant to listen to. This could be a universal song, although with the use of 94 years it may limit it to an individual , or your personal family. Not a bad thing... A very beautiful song, and produced nicely! If this is you on vocals, you have a nice voice. If you wanted to make a big production of this song, I think it would be worth it!! Digee
