Life On Mars review by _Robert MeloccaroI think the recording is sonically remarkable kudos to the engineer who really understood the way to approach the recording of the song which is crucial for capturing the essence of the material having a sublime nature such as this. I'm moved by the subtle variations in dynamics and the unexpected resolutions that the pivot and substitution chords invoke. This attribute adds a little mystery to the nice phrasing your musicians playing suggests is coming . Delicate passages, motifs (both rythnmical and melodic ) and variations on the theme tend to take the personalities of the musicians interplay in consideration .They bring a level of performance that does justice to the composition and draws the listener into a relaxed emotional state of mind . Beautifully done! Glad I got to review this one , it's a prescription for reducing stress Dr Cole. lol. Thanks-Rob
Nice MusicI like it a lot, keep up the great work! This music is so relaxing and smooth. You must have been really inspired, would recommend it to anyone for meditation or relaxation. Keep on making music like this!
Yes !!!A very attractive balance between the piano and the bass, the battery; a lot of sensibility in games of the musicians. The melody in the piano is put forward well. The recording is measured well; we hear very well every instruments.A very beautiful performance !
Close Your Eyes and RelaxRelax and enjoy the jazz trio-piano, bass and drums- sound of Dr. Fred Cole's Life on Mars. The major tonality takes a trip through some interesting modulations to raise the heart beat slightly, then relaxes again to a mellow sound. The ebb and flow puts the listener in a trance, then races ahead either harmonically, rhythmically, or melodically to develop this lovely tune. Definitely worth a listen.
Romantic song, likable.I do like this song. It surprises the listener many times, when the chord is unexpected. The piano arpeggios are very well chosen and the melodic line is agreable and innovative. As an ambient song, it excels. It modulates sensibly many times, despite the melody being very simple and repetitive. The performer, specially the piano or keyboard player, is very well acomplished.
Super longI personally got a lot of respect for what your music is doing on the n1m team coming from across the globe, however I have a short attention span for music. I'm the type of animated person that needs immediate dopeness. I also produce, come check out my music on N1M here in Los Angeles and I'm Reverbnation under SplitEndz The Profit here in Los Angeles for hip-hop. I have instrumentals for free download.
A song full of sensitivity.I love the song, it is very sweet and its interpretation, composition and harmonization is wonderful. The piano has a very dominant sound but it is heard at a very good recording level. perhaps only the acoustic bass could have a little more presence in the mix since it is very well interpreted but not equal with the other instruments. If the song is wonderful and it transmits very peaceful feelings and an atmosphere full of tranquility
classic melody of life on marsyeah, this is very classic and nicely played. Very smooth, jazzy feel and really a pleasant melody to listen to. I am not really keen on the cymbals I think it is used a bit disturbingly. Anyway it gets very harmonised by the end with all the instruments together. I actually really like the cover picture, and this sells most of it especially at this site. Good job on this and look forward for anything from your own music? cheers, temperowka
Life on Mars Dr Fred ColeHaving seen the Mars Landings videos I can see that perhaps Dr Cole did also and ventured to the piano to transform his reaction to this event musically into a cool adventurous song relating to the video in front of the world at the time. At any rate this song moves along musically across the imaginary landscape of the surface of Mars as best as we earthlings know and understand it at this point in our lives. I am not ready to move there, but if Dr Cole decides to make that move hw will be the best jazz band there for a while . I like your work Dr. Cole keep at it. Tom Wiggins and da boys in da band.
You asked for this review so here it is !I have listened to other tunes by this very Talented musician tunes that I would rate as far more creative and original, this one truly speaks on its own through the magic of the pianists skill .. I am not nor ever were a fan of David Bowie I have however enjoyed this tune because of the difficulty level in playing it and the calmness it induced what I`m saying is I could not play it any better than Dr Fred Cole Thank you Fred for asking me to listen to your rendition I wish you all the success that you truly deserve
A pure cover of a masterpieceHarmonic steps provided by smooth rhythms that constantly support a solitary piano melody, which projects us towards the most essential human feelings: happiness, nostalgia, hope or simply meditation. Feelings that only geniuses like Bowie can transmit through different perspectives without losing its eternal purity.
