About Desolate Angel

Desolate Angel are a power thrash metal band from Baltimore, Maryland USA. The band was founded in 1988 by guitarist/songwriter Phil Carnes. The name of the band is derived from the book titled the same which was written by Dennis McNally. The group recorded a two song demo in 1988 with engineer Drew Mazurek, which led to the five song EP titled Rip released in 1990. Desolate Angel in 1989 were Phil Carnes - guitars/vocals, Rick Johnson - drums, Dave Soul - guitars, and Sam Kirkendall - bass. Desolate Angel in 1990 were Phil Carnes - guitars/vocals, Rick Johnson - drums, Dave Soul - guitars, and Sean Mickey - bass. Desolate Angel in 1991 were Phil Carnes - guitars, Rick Johnson - drums, Allan Snow - vocals, and Hot Rod - bass. The band began performing at clubs such as Club K's, The Rage, The Midway Cafe, as well as received airplay on 97 Underground. The group returned to the studio with Drew Mazurek and recorded the eight song album Reichsfuhrer released in 1991, then began shopping it to labels looking for a record deal. Desolate Angel in 1992 were Phil Carnes - guitars/vocals, Rick Johnson - drums, Allan Snow - vocals, Charlie Gorman - bass, and Pat McKinney - guitars. Desolate Angel in 1993 were Phil Carnes - guitars/vocals, Rick Johnson - drums, Charlie Gorman - bass, and Greg Lassiter - guitars. In the same year Desolate Angel signed to Starship Record and headed to Oz Studio producing the eight song No Apology album with producers Drew Mazurek, Brad Divens, Mary Mullaney, and Ron Ford. The No Apology album was released in 1994 and the band began touring the east coast. Desolate Angel have performed with Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Pro-Pain, Prong, Voi-Vod, and other big named bands. The band ended in 1996 at the conclusion of the contract with Starship Records. The groups albums became part of the catalog for Ravenhurst Records who released the 1996 album Live Apology, a bootleg recorded live at Hal Daddy's in Baltimore, Maryland in 1995. Twenty years after the release of the No Apology album, guitarist/songwriter Phil Carnes has returned to the studio to record a brand new two disc Desolate Angel album titled Armageddon to be released on Ravenhurst Records in 2015.
