1983, Sevilla. Cuatro individuos sin instrumentos forman Candidatos Automáticos, grabando a pelo Qué Putada! y 2.222. Encontraron una guitarra en la basura y nació Desechos Urbanos, que en tardes de humo y botellas permanecieron activos un par de años más, grabando y actuando por pura diversión. Para la posteridad quedan sus dos álbumes Desechos Urbanos y El Directo.
Desechos Urbanos (Urban Junk) was formed in 1983 by four flatmates in Seville. With no instruments, but determined to write and sing music, they established the group Candidatos Automáticos (Automatic Candidates), singing, a capella, the songs “¡Qué Putada!” (“That’s harsh!”) and “2.222,” which Desechos Urbanos would later feature in their concerts. When they found a Spanish guitar in the trash, they took a qualitative step forward by incorporating conventional instruments into their compositions. A change in direction became necessary, which led to the forming of Desechos Urbanos. On weekend afternoons, amidst plenty of smoke and bottles, they stayed together for two more years, recording and performing just for the fun of it, leaving two albums for posterity: “Desechos Urbanos” and “El Directo,” along with a handful of other songs and collaborative efforts. After their breakup Pinre and Alfonso would go on to record the experimental “Quemando timbres en San Luis” (Burning Bells in San Luis), while Alfonso and “El Muerto” (The Dead Guy”) would record the EP “Zurburan22” as a duo in Caceres. What you can see and hear here is just a sample of their legendary legacy.
Their music reflects a rich variety of influences, beginning with the long shadow cast by punk - which gave them their “do-it-yourself” approach - to a whole range of techniques, everything from ominous to contemporary New Wave.
