Life Ain't Like the Movies - A friend of mine once remarked that her life wasn't like the movies where everything has a happy ending. So I wrote a song about it. This was originally a guitar based song that I wrote in 1972 or 3. It evolved into this piano, jazz quartet based number over the years.
Oh Tina! – I always promised my girl friend Tina that I would write a song about her. Well, now she’s my ex-girlfriend but I kept the promise about a year and a half after we broke up. So this is a tribute to her and Tina’s everywhere. A new song written in 2008.
Thief Of Time – A song about how fleeting and temporary life is. We all to often fail to appreciate what we have when we have it and then it’s gone. A new song written in 2008.
Wonders of the Mind – This song was written in 1979. I think I had recently read Heinlein’s “Stranger in a Strange Land”, which is where the eating eyeballs comes from.
Winter – This is probably one of the oldest songs in the collection. Written about 1972 0r 3 when I was 19 years old. A co-worker played the classical guitar and had come up with the first four chords of the song but no words. He asked me for help with it and this was the result. He was very disappointed because he wanted to impress his girlfriend with a love song. His contribution was minor in scope but this song wouldn’t have happened without it. It just sounded like winter to me when he first played the chords for me.
More Than That - It's a song about being in love with someone but feeling unable to do anything about it. Classic unrequited love theme. It was orignally composed sometime around 1974 and updated recently with a few lyric changes.
Real Good Feeling - This song is about finding love through the barriers of space and time. The original version of this song was composed in 1978 and the current incarnation was arranged and recorded in 2008.
Leaving Paradise - I lived in Panama for 3 years. After I left it occured to me that I was leaving paradise. That was the original insipration but the song evolved into more about how we are always in paradise but rarely realize it until after we leave it. A new song composed in 2007 and recorded in 2008.
No Spokesman For Thunder - This song would be perfect for high school marching bands as soon as slide guitar becomes a standard band instrument. A song about all the apathy in the world, but there is hope.
A little about me:
I was born tone deaf and had no natural sense of rhythm. Growing up I was exposed mostly to easy listening music for the rhythmically impared. As I grew older I learned to listen to pop music. I liked it ok as long as it was bland or boring. Then one day I discovered Rock and Roll. Life as I knew it would never be the same. I vowed to overcome my natural born limitations and learn to play this music for myself. As you can see, I’m still trying!
I started writing and performing in local bands back in the late 60's; probably more of an attempt to meet girls than a true artistic endeavor at that time. By the early 70's I had opened a small recording studio and was managing a number of local bands. That went on for several years until I found I had a need to need to get a real job and make real money. So I got a job in the computer industry.
So for the past 20 or 30 years I have been writing songs more or less for my own amusement and enjoyment. In the past year or so I find that I more time to devote to music. My background in both music and computers has given me the opportunity to actually record the sounds I have heard in my head for all these years.
So enjoy. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions. I know I'm not a great singer, so you can skip that one. If anyone is interested in these songs or collaborating let me know.
