Not Quite Like Everybody Else!

Bruce Gambrellis latest musical ride "Not Quite The Same" is a piece of hook mastery combining sounds that are remenincent of those great songs of the 60s and 70s but in this piece, Bruce does not hold back in showing his string hook prowess as at every turn. Just when you start appreciating the verse and the bridge and chorus arrive like new musical candy and honestly....I don't know how he fit those morsels into the song! The structure is intelligent and always morphing and the background vocals are fun and you find yourself asking... there's got to be more to this artist and I'm sure there will be soon!

Effortless sounding effort

the Beatles meet David Bowie meet Tears for Fears with the spectre of amy winehouse gypsy minor changes looming over the piece like the haze of blue cigarette smoke and a muted trumpet in an after hours club .. evoking black and white imagery, probably due to the minor transitions .. predictably unpredictable at times with an unexpected lack of repetition one has grown accustomed to in pop .. refreshing in that the cheery embellishments do not overwhelm the shadowy quality of the piece. pleasantly surprising is the shift to a very American sounding guitar solo without all the weird detours into atonality and dissonance .. we (Americans) like plump guitar sounds, not the scooped out, stripped down, heroin-chic, pale starving model from Amsterdam sound .. it is a brief but welcome patch of melodic sky .. the piece returns to the New Orleans funeral march minor feel with the cheery sounding horns which give it an ironic twist .. moody yet listenable, a gentle disturbance, like an odd mix of clouds that make you wonder whether to have your picnic or stay indoors.

Not Quite The Same Review

This song is very nostalgic...reminds me of a 1980s track, very efficient phrasing, and the use of the live instrumentation brings out the vocals. I love the electric guitar solo as well. Much respect.

Going Back in Time

"Not Quite the Same" by Bruce Gombrelli is definitely not quite the same kind of song you'll hear on your major radio stations today. Bruce takes his listeners way back in time to the the 60's and 70's, to the days of the Beatles and Jim Morrison and the Doors. In his description section for this song, he writes "This is a Retro British Pop song that is not trying to be Top 40 material, but to sound like music from the 60's, 70's. Enjoy!" Bruce definitely accomplished that goal; and YES I enjoyed listening to this song. Not too many songs can take you back in time and have you actually sit back reminisce for a moment. The arrangement and recording was spot on. Thanks Bruce for sharing your song with us.

The Unreal Life Story that Pops into Holland

Helpful

Yes this song has a well crafted sense of production. It has that feel of the group My Life Story with the piano, string and brass arrangements and vocal weave. It does conjure the feel for the music of later Beach Boys post Smile into Holland. Then the breakdown into a guitar solo that reminds me of Queen that takes it somewhere else. Everything comes back out through cello plucks and a infectious pulse that makes a perfect pop song on many dimensions.

Good Job Bruce

Hi Bruce, Just listened to your song and I really like the words, you did an excellent job with them. The beat could have been just a bit faster with the same end result. Keep up the good work. Your voice is doing a good job.Bob

Awsome

In some ways, music is a lot like literature. It can be pleasing, enlightening, even life-changing. A great song, like a great book, affects the listener in unanticipated ways and resonates long after the music has ceased. And, if done well, both music and literature have a rhythm and tone unique to their authors; you wouldn't confuse a passage from a Charles Dickens novel with one fromaHarry Potterbook, nor would you mistake a verse from "A Hard Day's Night" for one from a Lady Gaga song. But how do you describe your favorite song? How do you put its melody into words or explain the beauty of its chords? How do you begin to describe the emotions that it provokes in you?As the maxim goes, "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." In other words, despite the similarities between literature and music, conveying sound through text is a challenge, even for the most talented of writers.

60's & 70's sound

This song reminds me of the late 60's to mid 70's sounds like Bread, kinks, Linda Ronstadt and the Beatles, during the baby boomer generation. A period in time where the world were much comer, and love for music prevail with meaning. Nowadays, its nostalgia which is a good thing.

Elaborate Pop

This really conjures up a latter day Brian Wilson vibe, post "Pet Sounds". It's cool, even without those lush Beach Boys-style harmonies filling it out, although that might have been a nice touch. Nice to hear a full string arrangement jumping out. That was a rare treat that was creative. Overall, I enjoyed this recording and look forward to the artistic vision of this act in the future. Music like this is timeless! Thanks for putting it out there.

BRIT IS FIT TO BE TRIED!!

Bruce Gomrelli is living in the past!! Or at least his music is...He Channels the Beatles...and other such sounds from the 60s-70s. This Offering : NOT QUITE THE SAME, is not as full and bright as his first one...but it is still worth a listen. If you too are geared to music of this period..if you want to take a Magical Mystery Tour...or if you just want to relax and try some "laid back" Brit Pop from a past life...get on the bus with Bruce and "try " his sounds!!

Hey Bruce, I really enjoyed listening to your song. I think it's a good song. You have a nice clear voice. It has a summery feel to it, to me at least. It's a song that sticks in your head which is a good thing. Nice guitar solo. I didn't give you 4 points out of 5 because of your slightly cheap sounding trumpets haha. Maybe search for a better sample.Good luck with your music!
