Revving up with a Joe Satriani vibe on the intro to 'Driven' gives a clear indication that Aventyr are a band that aren't going to shy away from using their guitar players to maximum effect. It's a high octane piece of power pop rock with dirty riffs littering the melodic highway along which they travel. The pedal is most definitely down to the leopard print floor mats as backing vocals spill out of AOR heaven, harmonised by a choir of fallen angels. What an opening! Took me by surprise if I'm honest. I wasn't expecting anything this good.
'Betrayed' shows no signs of letting the side down and continues in much the same vein. A rolling bassline pollutes the atmosphere with a smokey haze before a jumpy riff takes over, making way itself for more of the harmonised backing vocals through the chorus. Close your eyes, think Def Leppard jamming with Backyard Babies. If that thought scares you then steer well clear of 'Driven', if not then buckle up and join the ride.
Video track 'Trouble' unleashes wave after wave of style with a searing solo that could be attributed to Steve Stevens. Mixed, mastered and co-produced by Beau Hill (Europe, Winger) 'Driven' has a wall of comfortable sound that plays out like a well polished platinum record. Smooth grooves lead nicely into 'Tomorrow'. Hard rock roots reaching as far back as Klaus Meine's hairline. 'Torpedo' explodes into a shining ball of hard rock fury and the soundtrack to an insane ride down 'Crazy Roads' empties the tank quickly by pushing the needle into the red.
Roger Olsen has a suave, commanding style behind the mic. Laid back yet loud his presence is similar to that of Billy Idol in some ways. There's a harder edge to these guys than first thought. And 'Empty Bottles' proves my point as it injects a nitro burst of punkish attitude, firing up Motorhead sized engines and showing a different angle to Aventyr not seen on the previous tracks. A heavier, more aggressive sounding band is uncovered momentarily but the punky edge is soon pulled back in and re-set to hard rock with 'Wanted', the last tune to swagger off under the Norwegian sunset that Aventyr call home. More northern hemisphere harmonies build alongside the pulsing bass that has dominated the background throughout this ten track journey so effectively. Great stuff.
Hell, this is a damn fine album, let's leave it at that.

When Norway careens into the USA the results are unsurprisingly eclectic and not as
messy as you might think! However, the amount of Britishness about ‘Driven’ by Norway’s
Aventyr, which was mixed and mastered by legendary American producer Beau Hill, maybe
isn’t quite what was expected.
This debut effort is pleasantly varied in approach with elements of good old fashioned
metal in the style of Judas Priest jostling keenly with the howl and stomp of The Cult, a
touch of Sunset Strip, some straight down the middle NWOBHM’ness and a good blast of
energetic rock and roll. Yeah I know, that sounds like a stramash of ideas and in a way it is.
However if you are able and willing to put aside the fact that one song on this album can
sounds decidedly unlike the next, while still fitting together beautifully, then there’s much to
entice the bouncy big kid out of you here. A twin guitar sound courtesy of lead licker Jan Tore
Befring and rhythm raconteur Steinar Aven infuses ‘Driven’ with a keen sense of purpose,
while the sometimes snarling, sometimes scything vocals from Roger Olsen sit perfectly in
songs strongly influenced by a whole host of 70s and 80s ideals.
‘Outside’ combines the school-cap riffery of AC/DC to an early Def chant of Leppard via
the snarl of ‘Kill ‘Em All’ Metallica. ‘Delirious’ adds a human pyramid of Scorpions staccato
harmony riffs to a blurting NWOBHM chorus. ‘Torpedo’ mashes up wolf worrying era Cult
and the lip-curling gurn of Billy Idol, while ‘Crazy Roads’ pounds and pummels like Priest
rattling their ‘British Steel’. Add to that a Skid Row grind and layered Crüe like gang chorus
in the title track and then a hip shimmying of G&R, a throaty cough of Motorhead and
a straight between the eyesness of Krokus or Golden Earring and you pretty much have
Aventyr covered.

AVENTYR started out in a gloomy dark attic in 2001, at the head of the Sognefjord, Norway. They held on for several turbulent years, with a good flow of musicians from bands like Funeral, Taake and Grotesque Hysterectomy amongst their ranks.
In ‘04 AVENTYR went to sleep and in '08 arose yet again, with guitarist, composer and founder Steinar Aven, and vocalist, composer and co-founder Roger Olsen as the only remaining members of the "old" AVENTYR. Together with a fresh generation of rockers AVENTYR re-emerged from the dark ground and back onto the music-scene; ready and able.
In 2011 the band released the EP ''Trouble'', mixed by Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Europe, Winger etc.) at the UK label Casket Music. The EP received good reviews both at home and abroad. In one of the reviews the band were defined as a mixture of Hellacopters and Backyard Babies in great shape - a description well-earned. This led, among other things, to a 5-year publishing agree
