The Last Word

Hi everyone,
I have to admit we have been remiss in responding to so many of you who have let us know how much you appreciate our music. The band is tremedously grateful. We are hard at work on our 3rd CD and will try to keep you informed. For now, our work is avaliable on Amazon under The Last Word Quintet. We are putting together our gig schedule for next year and will keep you informed. Please know we are moved by your response and hope you will all stay in touch.

Be ready for a great night coming up, Friday, March 5th starting at 7:30p, CST. The Last Word Quintet is going to do virtual concert performance from Martyrs (no audience) to celebrate the club and help raise money for this great music venue in these trying times of Covid-19.

Hi everyone,
I am sorry we have not kept you up to date, but just so that you know Al and I have been spending most of our creative time musically in a new group we have put together with the poet Marc Kelly Smith, saxophonist Brian Gephart, and bassist Doug Lofstrom. It is an original music project (the song Hope of Hope is one of the pieces we use). It's a group that crosses a lot artistic disciplines, most prominently music and poetry. I am including here the address for our Facebook page and also
a link to one of the performances of ours in concert, this one at the venue Space, in Evanston, just north of Chicago. I hope you continue to visit us here and I promise to do a better job of keeping our N1M page up to date.

Hi everyone, I’ve been preoccupied with a new project that has born fruit. The Last Word is a distinct type of expression mixing song and verse, tunes and poetry, sung lyrics and recitation with jazz and other grooves. Al and I have a new project called Quintet and we are really excited about it. It is a combination of jazz, singer-songwriter tunes, and poetry. The group includes poet Marc Smith, the founder of the poetry slam concept 35 years ago, along with Chicago saxophonist Brian Gephart and bassist Doug Lofstrom. Al and I wanted to thank you a lot for subscribing. Here is a link to our last concert at Studio 5 early in November. It was a great night. We were joined by poet Marc Smith, the creator of the poetry slam concept and whose residency at the Green Mill jazz club in Chicago goes back to 1985. It was a great night of music and spoken word and I hope you all enjoy it.
