Bio of the Artist
800 the Jewell is a hip hop artist and producer who for over a decade has helped build the Colorado hip hop music scene from the underground up. Starting from the streets of northeast Denver 800 the Jewell, born Phillip Deshon Embry, has taken the grime and grit of the streets, mixed it with some funk and spiced it with jazz to come up with the perfect recipe for his third album release entitled Life at 31. The growth 800 has experienced as an artist and a man since his sophomore release of 8thooven in 2007 is evident in this compilation. Life at 31 showcases his rhythmic flow and the music as 800 the Jewell describes it, “…has a balance to it that can give you an eargasm with its bursts of melodies and harmonies, and its strong rhythmic pulse.”
With a Grammy nomination consideration under his belt for “Who Said the Funk Would Die” from his debut album Only N’ Colorado in 2006, 800 has taken a broader approach with his latest project.
